Q: Can we have speed bumps to deter speeding in our neighborhood? From City of OKC Traffic Management
A: Speed bumps are not allowed on public Oklahoma City streets.
Q: Do we live in Edmond or Oklahoma City?
A: While our mailing addresses are Edmond due to the closest post offices being in Edmond, and our schools are Edmond Public Schools, we actually live in Oklahoma City. So emergency services- police, fire, EMSA- will be Oklahoma City. **Please note that fireworks including sparklers, roman candles, bottle rockets, snakes and other popular fireworks are illegal in Oklahoma City. Violation of the ordinance is punishable by a fine of $177.00 and possible jail time.Q: How do I pay my HOA Dues?
A: La Sonata HOA provides several methods of payment. Annual Dues are currently $200.00 per year and are due by March 31st of each year. Invoices are mailed out by mid-February. You may request an electronic invoice payable by debit/credit card by emailing hoa@lasonata.org. E-Invoices have a $8.50 electronic fee applied to your total. You may mail a check or money order made payable to La Sonata HOA, 2301 NW 196th Street, Edmond, OK 73012. You may pay at our In Person Days with cash, check or money order. NO DEBIT/CREDIT payments for In Person Days at this time. These dates are listed on the invoice as well as the HOA Calendar.Q: Who is responsible for repairing or replacement of fences/retaining walls or sidewalks?
A: Fences are jointly owned with whichever neighbor shares that fence and costs for repair or replacement should be agreed on and paid for 50/50.
La Sonata HOA is not responsible for retaining walls. If your retaining wall is in need of repair or replacement, you might contact the City Planner to see if assistance is available and/or who to contact.
Sidewalks are considered part of the property and are the responsibility of the individual homeowner. If you need to make sidewalk repairs, you might contact the City Planner to see if they have any assistance for it due to it being a public access area.Q: What days are Trash, Bulk Trash, and Recycling picked up?
Bulk Trash is picked up the first Wednesday of each month. Bulk trash may be put at the curb 3 days before pick up date and may take up to an additional 3 days to be picked up. Dates are listed on the HOA Calendar. Please keep it neat!
Q: I want to have a Garage Sale, what do I need to do?
A. Residents do not need to sign up, but MUST purchase an Oklahoma City Garage Sale Permit. Permits may be purchased online. Garage sales allowed by the city to run for three consecutive days. Signs may be please at the entrances and on the median at the front entrance. Please remove signs at close of your sale.La Sonata holds two annual Neighborhood Garage Sales, one in the spring and a second one in the fall. Check the HOA Calendar for dates.Q: A Neighbor has dogs that are barking excessively?
A: The first step would be to identify the property the dogs reside at. The second step is to talk to that neighbor and let them know that their dog is barking excessively and that it is disrupting your day... sleep... child's sleep.., etc. Talking to your neighbor is the best choice you have in this situation. They may not realize that it is disrupting your activities and being a nuisance.
IF talking to the neighbor does not work, your next step might be to report the issue to Animal Control for investigation. The number can be found on the Neighborhood Information page.
Q: The Streetlight near my home is broken or not working, who fixes this?
A: OG&E are responsible for maintaining and/or repairing the streetlights in La Sonata. You may report the need at OKC Action Center.Q: Does La Sonata provide shelters for severe weather/tornadoes?
A: No, La Sonata HOA does not have shelters for severe weather. There are no nearby public shelters. You may find more information on Emergency Preparedness and OKC offers Accessible Alerts for those with hearing impairments. OKC offers a program called Sooner Safe for installation of personal storm shelters if you meet the qualifications.Q: I need an Alarm Permit for my monitored home security system?
A: Yes. Having a permit may help avoid fines for excessive or false alarms by giving police the ability to proactively track problems. Administrative fees are issued for excessive false alarms, even if you have a permit. Alarm owners are allowed three false alarms within a 365 day period. Any false alarms beyond that point are deemed excessive and will result in an administrative fee being assessed. The cost of the invoices are $65 for each Police response, $107 for each Fire Department response.How much is the permit?

Q: I thought the neighborhood was "No Soliciting", don't we have signs at both entrances?
A: Yes, we have a sign, but they can get a permit from the City of OKC and can still go door to door in the neighborhood. They are moving along "public access" (taxpayer supported) which includes the sidewalks, also including the walk up your driveway to your front door. In order to stop them from disturbing you, you would need to put a "No Soliciting" sign on your door. Then they cannot ring your bell. If you are outside they can start their spiel. Non-Profits, including churches, are excluded from the need to have a permit from the city. These permits must be from OKC, not Edmond- though most of them get both. The permits also have pictures. If in doubt, take a picture of their badge- they should not object to that, nor taking a picture of them. If they do not have a permit, you can call the police (for the for profit companies) and ask they be escorted from the neighborhood. Also, report them to the OKC Permits office. You should also report the for profit companies if they ring your doorbell with a "No Soliciting" sign on the doorQ: My Garage has been broken in to, what can I do?
A: As a safety and security measure, there are several things that you can do.
1. Many of the garage door sensors are sensitive. So watch to make sure a small bit of debris does not blow by and keep it from closing completely.
2. Check your manual release cord and make sure it is shortened and the latch is prevented from being released. Ours has a screw inserted at the latch that we have to remove to release it manually and our cord has been tied up to shorten it to prevent thieves from using a wire to pull it. If you need more info on this, message me.
3. Thieves can also use a device set to certain frequencies to electronically release the door. Using the "Lock" feature on your garage door controls will prevent this.
Prevention is your best option, but if it does happen to you, please report it and get a report number from the police. And if you see something or someone who looks suspicious, call the police. Their job is to check these things out, even if nothing comes of it. See the Neighborhood Watch/Watch Patrol page for more safety and security information.Q: What is the Speed Limit for La Sonata?
A: The Speed Limit is 25 miles per hour, but slower is recommended. We are a family neighborhood with a lot of young children who enjoy playing outside. Please be aware that the children may dart out while playing and not look for vehicles. Let's keep them safe!Q: Do I need a Key Fob to access the Clubhouse and Pool? Where do I get one?
A: Yes, active Key Fobs are required to enter the Clubhouse, Fitness Room, Pool Deck and when the Event Room is reserved. Key Fobs should be obtained at closing on your home. Replacement Key Fobs may be purchased for $25.00 each with a limit of two (2) per account. You may visit the Clubhouse page for further information.NOTE: If your key fob is not working, please contact La Sonata HOA for assistance. Email: hoa@lasonata.org Phone: 405-757-1886. If someone's key fob is not working, do NOT let them in using your key fob. They should contact the HOA for assistance. Allowing entry using your key fob is a violation may result in it being deactivated.
Q: When is the Clubhouse, Fitness Room, and Pool open?
A:The Clubhouse and Fitness Room are open from 6 AM to Midnight (12:00 AM). The Pool is open 7 AM- 8 PM during Pool Season (Open: Saturday before Memorial Day , Close Tuesday after Labor Day). The Event Room is by reservation only. Please see the Clubhouse page for more information.Q: The HOA has a Fishing Pond?
A: Yes, it is located in the Northwest corner of the neighborhood where Vista Ave. becomes NW 198th Street. Between the two north side properties in that curve is a drainage spillway. The pond is located by following that spillway. We have a lovely fountain that helps keep the water aerated. It is stocked with Channel Catfish, Grass Carp, Bass, Coppernose Bluegill and Minnows. Please do NOT add any fish or turtles to the pond. We will soon need to set out turtle traps due to overpopulation from turtles migrating and put into the pond. We have a sensitive ecosystem put together and introducing other fish may upset that balance. At the current time, fishing is Catch and Release only. When fish populations are improved, the HOA will consider Catch and Keep dependent on the health and population of the fish.Q: I got a notice about overnight Streetside Parking, what is this?
A: Streetside parking is not permitted overnight in La Sonata. This is noted in the CCRs that each owner agreed to abide by when they purchased their home. The CCRs are also available on this website. The Rules document details the violation process. Please see those documents for more information. Ovenight Streetside Parking is not permitted due to overcrowding of streets and difficulty for both residents and emergency response vehicles moving through the neighborhood. Minutes can count and an emergency vehicle having to turn around and take an alternate route is dangerous.Q: My neighbor keeps parking behind my driveway/in front of my mailbox, what do I do?
A: The first step would be to identify the property the vehicle belongs to. The second step is to talk to that neighbor and let them know that their vehicle is blocking your driveway or mailbox and that it is making it difficult for you to access or exit your property or for the mail carrier to deliver your mail. Talking to your neighbor is the best choice you have in this situation. They may not realize that it is disrupting your activities and being a nuisance.IF talking to the neighbor does not work, your next step might be to report the issue to the OKC Action Center for investigation. The number can be found on the Neighborhood Information page. If your mailbox is being blocked, you may also contact Coffee Creek Post Office for information. This can also be reported to the HOA at safety@lasonata.org. Multiple reports to the HOA with pictures and descriptions of the same violation/violator may be determined to be a nuisance to be investigated and addressed by the HOA.
Q: A Neighbor has debris on the side of their house or is not maintaining their yard as noted in the CCRs and Rules documents, what can I do?
A: The first step would be to see if the debris are put to the curb for the next Bulk Trash day. The second step is to talk to that neighbor and let them know that the debris are unsightly and not permitted by La Sonata HOA or the City of OKC City Ordinances. If the yard is not being maintained, asking if they will do so soon, or offering assistance if helpful. Talking to your neighbor is the best choice you have in this situation. They may not realize that it is disrupting your activities and being a nuisance.IF talking to the neighbor does not work, your next step might be to report the issue to the OKC Action Center for investigation. The number can be found on the Neighborhood Information page. This can also be reported to the HOA at safety@lasonata.org. Multiple reports to the HOA with pictures and descriptions of the same violation/violator may be determined to be a nuisance to be investigated and addressed by the HOA.
Q: Where is my For Rent or Lease sign?
A: For Rent or Lease signs are not permitted in La Sonata HOA without prior approval in writing from the HOA. Multiple For Rent/Lease signs in the neighborhood lower property values. Many of our Non-resident Owners/Management companies find that posting with websites like Zillow or in the case of a management company, their own website, is far more effective than putting a sign in the yard and protects their investment as well. Signs that are removed are, the first time, placed at the side of the house and the contact number is called to explain and give notice of sign's location. After this, the signs will be stored at the Clubhouse and an appointment will need to be made to retrieve them with a violations letter being mailed to the owner. Repeat instances will result in violations fines being applied to the Owner's account.NOTE: For Sale signs are permitted and will not be removed.
Q: I want to build a roof over my patio, or put a storage building in my back yard, or change the paint color for my door or siding, do I need HOA permission?
A: Yes, the HOA needs to approve improvement projects such as these and others. Any change to the exterior of your house facing the street must be approved. Any project that would be visible above the fence line in your back yard must be approved. Email hoa@lasonata.org to request an Architectural Approval Request Form.
